BEHIND THE POP: CATWOMAN
We’re continuing our Behind the Pop series this week by raiding the QMx production vaults for a look at the development of Q-Pop® Catwoman!
With Batman™, his pose atop a gargoyle base helps give him a sense of grit. For Catwoman, her feline friends and looted jewelry bag helps characterize her charming, yet mischievous personality.
"Catwoman is my second favorite character, so it was important for me to come up with a design that captured her in just the right way,” said Mohammad Haque, QMx’s design director and the man behind the DC Comics Q-Pops.
It’s these thoughtful little details that help make Q-Pops special, setting them apart from a sea of other figures that repaint a template figure.
However, sometimes design ambitions have to take a backseat to practicality. As these prototype sketches show, a stray cat hanging off the word bubble (who could also be placed onto Catwoman’s backpack) was originally planned, but production logistics made it impractical and had to be scrapped.
Thankfully, Catwoman’s companions, who are inspired by real-life kitties, found other places to slink around!
